Rekindling our Kids
“We not only need to build a fire in our own lives but we need to be conscious of adding kindling to other people’s fire. We need to be building others up, not throwing negativity and criticism on them while inadvertently snuffing out their flame.” That simple yet powerful image stopped me in my tracks as it seems so easy to do just that to our kids.
Must Love Dogs
My family teases that I love the dogs more than I love them, not true, but dogs don’t ask anything of me. When I cry, their cold noses and wet kisses dry my tears, they listen without judgement and love me even when I’m unlovable. They force me to walk when I don’t want to move and when I’m feeling empty and weary they pour their souls into me.
Let them Sleep
I recently overheard a conversation between a group of moms with college age kids. They were complaining about when their kids come home to visit they sleep so much. They were frustrated and hurt, rightfully so. We have so little time with our ‘adult’ children that we want to spend as much time with them as possible.
Go West Young Man
It’s hard on this momma’s heart but you know what I didn’t realize is how hard it’d be on the daddy’s heart as well.
Proud
Parenting is hard y'all. It doesn't matter what stage you're in either; from bringing them home from the hospital and trying to figure out what the heck you're supposed to be doing to toddler years where they don't listen to a dadgumn thing you say (unless it's a cuss word then they're gonna not only listen but repeat it at high volume levels at the most inopportune times).
What Happens Next
"What happens next?" The answer is "I'm not sure exactly" which is slightly terrifying to this extreme planner (who also raised an extreme planner).
Finding their Wings
It's a totally different feeling than back to college and I didn't expect that. He's a full fledged adult now, entirely independent and on his own and I'm over here wondering how the last 21 years passed by in the blink of an eye.
Kimberly’s Top Ten
There ya go, y’all, I could literally go on for days but here’s “Kimberly’s Top Ten” of important things you need to remember as your kids head back to school and the chaos and craziness starts up again.
Figuring out this Mama Thing
Do you remember what you were thinking when you had your kids?
